Why NightBeat Radio?

INDYLAND_050aSome History…

When Guy was hosting the program “Evensong” in the 1990’s, people would call in with their questions, problems and issues facing them that day or in their life environment. The program was curtailed due to the fact that the host station, WHLO went through a sale of ownership and all of the programs were dropped from the schedule. At about the same time, Guy was faced with the news that his wife needed a lung transplant; not one, but both. The fight to find the proper donor, added with the dynamic of two children still in school had created a unique situation for Guy – whereby his training and experience working in churches and the radio program were put to a real life test. After Guy’s wife passed away, he chose to volunteer more, did some music teaching in the local schools and saw at a ground level the life struggles that effect our youth and culture today. The Push…
It was a year and a half after Mr. Wehman’s wife passed away that the murder of Laci Peterson hit the news. Then the murder of Jesse Davis hit the news, then Marine Megan Touma was murdered. All three murders within a short window of time and all three women carrying their unborn babies. A friend of Guy’s in Tulsa, OK had her daughter become missing in a suspicious diving accident and to this day the body has not been found after three years. These events hit Guy hard and he decided to move ahead with action.

The Requiem Project and Night Beat…
Mr. Wehman was directing his energy to find ways of giving back, to make a difference and help others going through similar situations. With his strong faith, his talent in the music field and his experience with churches and “Evensong”, the idea of “The Requiem Project” emerged. The Requiem Project is a musical project, a concert recording and tour, dedicated to the victims of domestic violence and the lives lost in the struggle for life. However, more pressing was a radio program that could meet the needs of many people across a wide range of topics. The program would be a call-in radio program in the evening tailored specifically for the hurting, dealing with contemporary issues and a resource to aid listeners across the country. That program is “Nightbeat Radio”. The concert tour will eventually turn into “Nightbeat Radio, In Concert”.

Step One…
A call went out to Ron Bartlebaugh, a friend and director of engineering at WKSU, who Guy knew from his days working at WCRF in Cleveland. Meetings with other key people followed; Garry Meeks, respected radio consultant and Lisa Troyer, radio personality and recording artist, and the idea seemed viable.

Step Two?…
Just then, Guy was faced with another family crisis of his son attempting to take his life. Dealing with this issue years before on the radio helped, however the plans to proceed on the program were put on hold. In working through these situations, Mr. Wehman’s resolve and direction became even more clear.

Guy NB14Step Three – The Now…
The time is now for Night Beat Radio! Putting the pieces together with the help of close friends and allies in radio, along with colleagues and friends in the music industry and recording studios across the country will aid in bringing the much needed program to air and podcasts. The program slug line “Affecting Lives to Affect Lives” perfectly states what the program is about. Help each person cope – and as each gets stronger they in turn help another and another. Music is still important, and “occasionally” will be interspersed during the show, yet daily issues and people calling in are the main focus. Personal appearances and even concerts are possible… and eventually The Requiem Project, aka “Nightbeat Radio, In Concert”.

The broadcast has started regularly Monday – Friday 11:00p ET on March 1, 2010 on radio station WNPQ. From then until the present the team has seen growth, lives affected and the potential to see the program go national. At present we ask for your help in spreading the word about the Nightbeat radio program to help us grow across the nation and the world, as we are “streaming” via the internet. We ask that you become a member of the Nightbeat Nation! … and together we’ll be “Affecting Lives to Affect Lives”.
